Is Christmas in 2020 Even Real?🙄

2020 pulled a fast one on us globally, that much we can agree on.
The year that was, the year that began a decade with much unexpectedness, shock, jaw dropping times, anxiety, new beginnings, pivoting moments, delays, isolation, time out, etc. the list could go on and on.
The year was everything we did not anticipate.
However, I'm of the firm belief that some of the best gifts in life don’t come as we expect them to.
The Christmas Story
Reflecting on the Christmas story, the coming of a Saviour born to a 14, 15, or 16 year old (so it’s speculated) virgin, and born in a manger, wrapped up in swaddling clothes is in no way the picture of a Saviour or a King even more so a God!
But the baby was the promise, the long foretold prophecy of the Son of man who would come to save the world.
The circumstances surrounding His birth were in no way reassuring but it didn’t negate the truth that the baby was indeed the promised Messiah.

As we all know the Saviour’s story, right from His birth to His horrendous and humiliating death on a cross as a criminal, it was destined that all of humanity would be saved through Him.
The Christmas Story Lesson
The lesson here is, sometimes we wait for the grand unveiling of a project, a master plan, or a renowned individual to come and turn everything around for the better.
But if 2020 has taught us anything, it has taught and shown us that no one really has the power, the answers or the solution.
None of us with all of our resources could undo the pandemic or fast forward time to a post pandemic season.
We were all put in the same boat.
The year became “The great leveler”, in that no one was in actual sense above the other as far as being at risk of infection of the Covid-19 virus and its effects.
For once, we could all attest to our human vulnerability and the need for one another.
Though we were all socially distanced, the need for togetherness and community was heightened. We were brought to a sharp awareness as to the value of people, life and good health.
Because of the pandemic, a colossal awakening resonated with a vast majority of us on the need to have a change in perspective towards life especially where we tend to think we have control of the future.
It has awakened us to the possibility that one single event can cause a topsy-turvy at a massive scale.

I believe that the assumption of control had to be dealt with and a harsh reality check put in place irrespective of age, class, status, race, or religion.
The fact is, we’re all susceptible to any form of attack but the bigger question is what or to whom do we run to?
My hope is that in this Christmas season, we will allow ourselves to be reminded of the true meaning of Christmas.
To be reminded of the power, hope, and salvation that came from the least likely place and unlikely person, a baby boy - the Messiah.
