The Good Shepherd

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

Going through life without a guide is like walking blind. What's worse is being a Christian and living like God isn't around at the time of need. This blogpost is aimed at drawing us nigh and reminding us of God's ever present guidance

Hey, welcome to your journey to success, oh yes! You are an unfolding success story and I'm privileged to have you on this journey. My aim is to equip you with truth and tools to lead you to your next level of success because you are full of potential, with big dreams, and enormous value that can't be ignored! I sure can't wait for the world to witness your greatness.

John 10:14-15. “I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me just as the Father knows me and I know the Father and I lay down my life for the sheep.”

What you just thought is who Jesus says He is in the text before us and is to you in your life. He is not only a shepherd but ‘The Good Shepherd’.

What words come to mind when you hear the word shepherd? A protector? May be a caregiver? Well, whatever came to your mind somehow defines the word.

What you just thought is who Jesus says He is in the text before us and is to you in your life. He is not only a shepherd but ‘The Good Shepherd’.

This analogy Jesus gave of Himself came at a time when He was just about to undergo the great suffering of bearing the sins of the world upon Himself. He did not look within Himself and feel sorry but instead He looked at you and me, His sheep and cared for our well-being more than He did His own.

Jesus explained His nature and role in being the good shepherd.

He said that in being a good shepherd, He would care for and provide and more than that He would lay down His life for the sheep.

Jesus did not count His life more worthy than that of the sheep, He valued the life of His sheep far too much. In essence Jesus was saying, He could not bear watching the life of one of His flock lost under his watch, He would rather die fighting to protect them and we know that Jesus is no loser, He would win the fight.

If Jesus loves His sheep to the point of death, then why do we find it so hard to trust in Him for lesser things? I believe one of the reasons could be, we find such kind of a love impossible to have and to experience.

I mean, who could love you to the point of death? That they are willing to die for you, even to die for a crime they never committed? It truly isn't possible to find such kind of love in this world, especially now that everyone is so caught up in their own business.

In fact, the slogan of the day is “Mind your own business!” Nobody has the time to keep thinking about your problems, about your worries, about your dreams and desires but God is.

If we could only but believe, no matter how little that faith is, it will move mountains.

Jesus said that if we have faith enough like a mustard seed (which is said to be a tiny seed) then we can command mountains to be removed and they will be removed!

If we have faith in Jesus and trust Him and Him only, our mountains will have no choice but to move. We have this assurance about God’s promises, that He shall bring them to pass not because we have been at our best behavior but because He loves us.

Just like the shepherd, who fends for his sheep, so too Jesus fends for us. He is ever interceding for us, He has been through what you and I have been through, are going through and are going to go through.

He knows and He understands. He does not measure His supply like man does, He gives His supplies in abundance! Jesus is way more interested in you than you are in Him and if He is will He not care for you?

Look at Jesus with a fresh pair of eyes. Don't liken Him to men (including your earthly father), He is better and He is able to keep on His promises.

Jesus will never break your heart for He is your good shepherd, He is for you and not against you. Believe and rest in His everlasting love for you, for no greater love has one than this, that He chose to lay down His life for you and me.

And nothing can be better than that.
